ESCAPE TO THE IRBYS FARM - TASMANIA
The Irbys Homestead is private and chic accommodation on the historic 1,000 acre beef property known as Irbys by our family. The home sleeps comfortably 8 guests. There are beautiful lawns around the home with a vast view of the north west coast and Bass Strait.
The home was built in 1926 and has all the wonderful features from that era (the original blackwood polished floorboards in the bedrooms and front lead light doors). We love the home and want others to experience our way of life. Irbys Country View is our family escape to peace and quiet.
In 2017 we renovated the home to bring it back to its original glory after having no one permanently living in it for 30 years and opened the doors to our first guests in 2018.
You can spend your days relaxing and unwinding in the home. The view from the Lounge is our best kept secret which takes you to another world of relaxation! We welcome guests that are respectful of the home as it is our place of relaxation too. There is a beautiful deck off the dining room area and another deck outside with the beautiful lawns surrounding it.

Guest Access
Our guests have exclusive access to the whole house so you can make yourselves at home. Guests also have access to all the lawn area around the home. As it is a working beef farm we do ask all guests not to move past the lawn area around the home unless you are with us. There is a large outdoor setting on the deck for you to enjoy the relaxing view with a Weber BBQ.
The Irbys Homestead
The moment you step into Irbys Country View you are sure to feel right at home (that is our aim). From a cosy wood fire, comfy leather sofa, polished floorboards, luxurious linen and towels and relaxing bathroom with a claw foot bath and fairy lights, you will have everything you need to enjoy your stay. Infact many of our guests plan to visit many parts of the Tarkine while staying at Irbys, but do not leave the home for their entire stay! Early Check In or Late Check Out is available if you need it. Over 50% of our Guests are Returning Friends.
In The Home
The bedrooms are all full of relaxation. Irbys has four bedrooms, one large bathroom with heat lamps, a claw bath and shower and two separate toilets. There is one room that has bunk beds. In this room there is an array of items that can be used by children and bigger kids. The bathroom has a claw bath that you can fill with bubbles using rainwater (and a 95 year old claw bath outside too) surrounded by beautiful perfumed candles and in winter we have the wood fire going for you on your arrival to enjoy! The kitchen has a marble butchers block and all the cooking essentials that you need. The combustion stove in the farmer’s kitchen is marvelous to cook on and sends out a beautiful heat too. French doors open from the dining room onto a deck where you can enjoy a glass of Tasmanian bubbles while enjoying the Irbys Country View. There is a washing machine, dryer, clothes hanger, iron and ironing board available for you to use. All beds have electric blankets and the highest quality linen towels, robes and slippers are provided.
Relax & Unwind
It is a perfect place for couples or friends to unwind out on the deck in summer or in the home in winter overlooking the magnificent Tarkine view. It is also a home that is family friendly with lots of space for children to play. There is ample parking.
The Coffee Machine
A high quality coffee machine works a treat, we understand the importance of a lungo and latte in the morning or during the day! We have a few other surprises for our guests too. But sshhh they are only for our guests!!
In The Tarkine
While you stay at Irbys there are many nearby attractions and activities for you to do. We are close to the village of Stanley where you can spend the day visiting the historic town and its small shops or trying to catch some squid or fish (we have fishing rods available for you to use). Or you can take a hike at the Trowutta Arch (one of our favourite walks), which is stunning! And of course there is the must do Tarkine Loop and head to the Edge of the World at the Arthur River, hike the Milkshakes or visit the marvelous Julius River (our Sydneysider guests that have visited twice, have said to us ‘You must tell all your guests, to visit Julius River, we have never seen anything like it in our lives!). The choice is yours!
About Us
We are a family of four Brett, Penny, Isaac (18) and Isabella (15). We love our country life and the quietness and relaxation it brings when we are not working on the farm. We love to meet people and learn about where they are from, their culture and what they do in their daily lives. Over 75% of our guests are returning friends (our very first guests from Victoria, come back every second month!) and we love to keep in touch with as many of our guests as possible, many have become life long friends. And we have been to see them around Australia and even Overseas.
